Webs to Whales Nature Tales, produced by Block Publishing, is a series of picture books for ages 4 to 8 with interactive software that teaches the science behind the story. The series integrates reading, technology and science. There are currently two titles: The Rainbow Web and True Blue Friend. Each book offers a fictional tale about an animal. Students can then compare the story to factual information given in narrated, interactive lessons on the CD. Printable activities in reading, math, and science are included to reinforce learning. A third title, You’re Blushing, Little Octopus, will be released this spring. Block Publishing is a small, woman-owned company that has been in business for two years. We focus on science books and software for grades K–6. Our materials are used by schools, libraries, homeschoolers, and parents. Content is correlated with national and state science standards. We produce only a few titles each year. Each product is carefully crafted, and we continually strive to improve our products based on suggestions and response from our customers.

Webs to Whales Nature Tales has won a 2007 Teachers’ Choice Award for the Family from Learning® magazine. This is the only awards program that requires evaluators to be both a teacher and a parent. Each product is evaluated for educational value, originality and creativity, ease of use, and high-interest and motivation for children. Winning
products will be featured in the April issue of Learning® magazine.
