Coral Reef Interactive Book Wins Preferred Choice Award from Creative Child® Magazine

Pacific Grove, CA (Nov. 17, 2008) — Block Publishing proudly announces that their newest book and software set, “You’re Blushing, Little Octopus,” was chosen for a Preferred Choice award from Creative Child magazine and will be highlighted in the holiday issue.

In Creative Child Magazine’s Awards program, both moms and educators review products. Each May, over 100 guest reviewers test the submitted products; their scores and comments are tabulated and reviewed to select the best of the products. Finalists for the Toy of the Year award in each category receive the prestigious Preferred Choice award.

This book–CD set was written to celebrate the 2008 International Year of the Reef. “I’m so very pleased that Creative Child magazine has honored us with this award,” said author Cheryl Block. “Coral reefs worldwide are endangered. In teaching children about this fragile ecosystem, we hope to inspire them to care for the world around them.”

“You’re Blushing, Little Octopus,” written by Cheryl Block and illustrated by Gene Takeshita, was released in August 2007. The story focuses on a little octopus that learns how to camouflage when she must save an angelfish and herself from the jaws of a hungry eel. The companion CD-ROM offers narrated, interactive lessons about the octopus and its coral reef habitat. Dr. Steven Webster of the Monterey Bay Aquarium vetted the factual content for the CD. Printable activities and worksheets are also included.
