The Rainbow Web wins an iParenting Media Award for Best Products 2006!
Block Publishing is proud to be an iParenting Media Award winner for its Rainbow Web CD-ROM. Our
software was selected from thousands of products submitted for the 2006 Best Products. The iParenting Media
Awards are sponsored by iParenting Media, which produces the award-winning iParenting.com network of web
sites for parents, as well as Family Energy magazine. The awards program is the only internationally certified
product evaluation system in the parenting awards industry. Products are reviewed by a team of outside
reviewers, including both parents and educators.
The Rainbow Web is available as standalone software or as a book and CD set, with the CD-ROM included in
a hardbound picture book. The Rainbow Web is the story of a little spider who dreams of spinning a colorful
web. The interactive software teaches children the facts about real spiders and includes a narrated version of the
book story. Through a series of narrated, interactive lessons using actual photos, kids compare the anatomy of a
spider and a fly (Did you know spiders have as many as 8 eyes?); learn about different kinds of spider webs and
spiders (Have you ever seen a red and yellow spider shaped like an arrow?); and practice mixing colors (How
do you make green?). The CD also offers printable activities in reading, math, and science to accompany the
lessons and bring the kids back to paper/pencil and hands-on learning.
USABOOKNEWS.COM AWARDS THE RAINBOW WEB BEST CHILDREN'S INTERACTIVE SOFTWARE
USABookNews.com, the premiere online magazine and review website for mainstream and independent publishing houses, announced the winners and finalists of its “BEST BOOKS 2005” AWARDS (BBA). 250 winners and finalists were announced in 60 categories covering print, audio, e-books and interactive CD-ROMs. Science gets little time and attention in classrooms today. The Rainbow Web, first in the Webs to Whales Nature Tales series, engages a child's natural curiosity and enthusiasm for nature. Combining literature with technology, this series offers parents, homeschoolers, and teachers a fun and easy way to fit in science education. Each beautifully illustrated book includes an educational, interactive CD-ROM that teaches the science behind the story. In the book, a little spider's dream of spinning a colorful web comes true. The CD uses actual photos and narrated lessons to teach about spider and insect anatomy, types of spiders and webs, and primary and secondary colors. Printable activity sheets in math, reading, and science then take kids back to hands-on learning. The CD-ROM, which includes an ebook version of the story, is also available as standalone software. True Blue Friend, the story of a unique friendship between a humpback whale and a blue whale, will be available in November. A key focus of this book and CD is whale conservation. The CD will include lessons on whale and fish anatomy, echolocation, types of whales, and videos of whale behaviors. |
